The Association of Southeast Asian Nations also known as ASEAN was created on August 8, 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand. The founding members include: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. According to the ASEAN Declaration, the ASEAN union aims to: (1) to accelerate the economic growth, social progress and cultural development in the region and (2) to promote regional peace and stability.
